Crispy fried mozzarella cheese coated in a sweet and spicy hot honey glaze. The mozzarella is double-breaded and frozen to prevent leaking during frying, then drizzled with a homemade glaze.
1. Get fresh Mozzarella cheese (not soaking in liquid, use packaged) and cut it into thick slices. Dry off any excess liquid.
2. Add flour to one plate. In another plate, combine 1 part Italian seasoned breadcrumbs and 1 part panko breadcrumbs.
3. Season both the flour and breadcrumb plates with garlic powder, Greek seasoning, white pepper, and creole seasoning to taste.
4. Dip the cheese slices into the flour, then into whisked eggs, and pack on the breadcrumbs.
5. Dip them into the whisked eggs again, and add on another coat of breadcrumbs. (This double breading helps prevent the cheese from leaking during frying.)
6. Once breaded, place the cheese slices into the freezer for no less than 2 hours.
7. Heat oil to about 350 degrees F. Fry the frozen breaded cheese slices until they are golden brown, then transfer them to a cooling rack.
8. For the hot honey glaze: In a pan on medium-low heat, add 2 tablespoons of butter, 1/2 cup of honey, 2 tablespoons of Crystal hot sauce, 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, chili pepper flakes, cayenne pepper, and salt to taste. Stir until combined and heated through.
9. Coat your fried mozzarella with the hot honey glaze while they’re on the cooling rack (the creator prefers to only coat the top half and keep the bottoms clean).
10. Enjoy!
